As an African student, no doubt, winning a scholarship award would make your academic journey somewhat easier. While some families and sponsors can afford tuition fees and foot the educational bills of their child/ward, others can’t really do this comfortably. However, being a beneficiary of one or more scholarship schemes remains the dream of many African students. A new year is here, and you have to keep an eye on the starting and closing dates of some of the annual scholarship programmes.

Undoubtedly, some are yet to invite eligible candidates to apply for their annual awards. However, many are open already. Guess what? Some of them have their deadlines very close. You need to tie your shoelace and act swiftly.

1. Mid Sweden University Masters Scholarship

Offered annually, this academic session’s programme is on. If you’re eligible but haven’t applied yet, now is the time to do that. You can check your eligibility and how to apply here.

Mid Sweden University Tuition Fee Scholarship is geared towards assisting outstanding students from countries that are not part of EU/EEA(and Switzerland). This programme is for international master’s students who are required to pay tuition fees following their application to pursue a programme at the host university. The duration of this scholarship is one year, and the selection criterion is mainly academic excellence.

2. Utrecht University Master’s Degree

This is an annual scholarship scheme that allows students who have proven to be outstanding, pursue a master’s degree in certain fields of study at Utrecht University. Often, it offers 20-25 scholarship awards annually and focuses on international students whose countries are outside the EU/EEA.

The scholarship caters to tuition fees for the period of study, which is one or two years. Applicants must be among the best 10% of their graduating class and must have applied for a Master’s programme before applying for the scholarship. 3. Leuven Scholarships

Hosted by Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, this scholarship scheme aims at assisting talented and motivated students who look forward to studying in the science faculty of the university. It offers its beneficiaries up to 10,000 Euros for one year. This caters to basic tuition fees and health insurance. The scholarship for the second year is obtainable only if the beneficiaries performed excellently in the first master year exams.

4. Uppsala University Master’s Degree

Uppsala University Global Scholarships will award citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland scholarships that will cater to their tuition fees only.

5. ICSP Scholarships 

International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) scholarship is offered annually and is committed to assisting international students who show financial needs and outstanding merit. This scholarship scheme has a cultural aspect that mandates students to make presentations about their various home countries to other U.O. students, staff, faculty, and even organizations.

Applicants must be students of the University of Oregon, USA, or must be admissible into the institution. Applicants cannot be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Apply here. 

Prospects can apply here. As needed by the program, all students of ICSP must agree to devote 80 hours annually to cultural service.

6. Radboud University Master’s Degree

This programme provides some outstanding non-EEA students with the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree programme at the same university. Awarding about 30 students annually, Radboud University Master’s Degree Scholarship Programme reduces tuition fees of beneficiaries, caters to their visa and insurance costs.

7. Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarships

Annually, the Pershing Square Foundation provides scholarship awards to assist outstanding students through their MBA/Master’s Degree pursuit. Each beneficiary will obtain funding for their MBA programme and master’s degree with about £15,000 for living expenditures.

8. Holland Scholarship for Non-EEA International Students

This is an annual scholarship scheme that offers beneficiaries to pursue Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Netherlands. Sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, international students from countries outside EEA get the opportunity to pursue their dream career.

This scheme offers €5,000 as part tuition fee. It’s a one-off award that requires applicants to apply for it through their choice of the participating institutions.

9. International Ambassador Scholarships 

The International Ambassador Scholarship offers financial support to students who stand out and finds it great to be ambassadors for the University of West London. This is an annual scholarship open to postgraduate or full-time undergraduate course at the school. Offering up to 100 scholarships to students for the first year, they provide up to £5,000 discount on tuition fees.

10. Nottingham Developing Solutions Scholarships

This is an annual scholarship scheme focused on international students who are committed to pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Nottingham, UK. It’s open to nationals of India and Africa, as well as some countries of the Commonwealth. It offers 50-100% tuition fees to its awardees. Applicants must apply to be full-time students of any of the following faculties; Engineering, Science, Social Science, or Medicine & Health Sciences. Then, they can proceed to apply for the Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship here.
