Share |

The Opekete Foundation is in memory of Late Mrs Florence Bamidele Makanjuola who built a career in teaching and nursing. In the spirit of acting on her desire to see better teachers and nurses, Mrs Makanjuola set up the okpekete foundation with a few students being beneficiaries. To keep her dream alive, her children and grandchildren have decided to keep continue with the scholarships via the Florence Fund.

Opekete Foundation

Opekete Foundation seeks to create a world of opportunities for women and girls to prosper regardless of their starting point in life. The foundation believes that with access to education, financial services, and skills training, all women can be empowered for success. Their focus is empowering young girls in Nigeria to a better life through education and financial literacy.

Mrs. Florence Bamidele Makanjuola

Mrs. Florence Bamidele Makanjuola nee Familusi (1921 – 2021) was a teacher, nurse, great grandmother and beloved matriarch. A pioneer of her generation with educational opportunity, she lived a long, eventful, and accomplished life, passing away just shy of her 100th birthday. The Opekete Foundation was the brainchild of Florence, created as a platform to formalize her lifelong support for the education of indigent girls in Imesi-Ile and her other female empowerment and philanthropic activities. The Foundation was named in honour of her beloved late father, Gilbert Familusi aka Opekete (proprietor of Opekete Shoes), a strong and enduring influence in her life whose love, guidance and memory she revered till the end of her days.
