DELT-Her Initiative for Nigerian female engineers

The DELT-Her (Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her ) Initiative is a Nigerian national programme launched by NASENI and PICTT to support female engineers with innovative ideas by providing them with the necessary funding, mentorship, startups support, training, and networking opportunities. The initiative targets young females aged 23 to 45 years who have developed a proposal on innovative ideas in engineering and have set up a team for the implementation of the ideas. The programme will offer mentorship to the selected candidates and aims to shape those ideas into viable startup businesses.

About DELT-Her Initiative

Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her – DELT-Her is an initiative that was launched to bridge the gender gap in engineering and tech in Nigeria, DELT-Her backs young women with fresh ideas, strong teams, and the drive to build working solutions. It’s not just about funding, it seeks to create opportunities for women in engineering, by attracting and supporting innovative engineering ideas which would ultimately be mentored and developed into startup companies.

The DELT-Her Initiative goals

The key objectives of this initiative are:

  1. To address the existing gender imbalance in the study and practice of engineering and technology in Nigeria, by sponsoring the innovative ideas of young, female engineers.
  2. To foster a more inclusive and diverse engineering practice landscape in Nigeria.
  3. To build a collaborative network of stakeholders including tertiary institutions, business, and industry leaders, who would enable a more supportive environment for women in engineering.
  4. To inspire the next generation of female engineers in Nigeria by making female engineering success stories more visible to them.
