The board of the General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation (GIAF) decided after the 3rd anniversary of the passing of the late 21st COAS to start the GIAF scholarship. It is a programme opened to children and dependent’s of Army personnel and veterans in Nigerian universities, designed to encourage them and help them reach their potentials.
The General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation
The General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation (GIAF) is an independent and non-partisan foundation named after the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Nigeria, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru (LGIA), who passed away on the 21st of May 2021, while on active duty in the service of Nigeria. The Foundation is set up to ensure the perpetuation of the ideals and qualities he embodied both as a military service leader and in his personal life as a man of integrity, generosity, kindness of heart, as expressed in the various ways he helped fellow Nigerians.
The aims of this scholarship include:
- Commitment to the Public Good. GIAF prioritizes the improvement of Nigeria as a country, and welfare of Nigerians as a people. They encourage cooperation to support the most vulnerable in society, and are neither driven by personal gain nor profit.
- Accountability: GIAF works in collaboration with our target beneficiaries and we are accountable to them in carrying out interventions. Their interventions are carried out based on the four core humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence.
Eligibility
To be an eligible applicant of this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must be dependants of serving, retired or deceased Nigerian Army Personnel.
- Exceptional academic performance, showcased by outstanding O-level and JAMB results, will be a key selection criterion. Applicants will be considered from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
- Inclusivity is a core principle, with gender balance as a priority.
