Heinrich Böll Foundation scholarships in Germany

The Heinrich Böll Foundation scholarships grants approximately 1500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunst-/Musikhochschulen’).

About the Heinrich Böll Foundation

Fostering democracy and upholding human rights, taking action to prevent the destruction of the global ecosystem, advancing equality between women and men, securing peace through con­flict prevention in crisis zones, and defending the freedom of individuals against excessive state and economic power are all the objectives that drive the ideas and actions of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. They maintain a close tie to the German Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens) and as a think tank for green visions and projects, they are part of an international net­work encompassing well over 100 partner projects in approxi­mately 60 countries.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation works independently and nurtures a spirit of intellectual openness. They maintain a world­ wide network with currently 34 international offices. They co­operate closely with 16 state-level Böll Foundations in each of Germany’s federal states, and support talented, socio-politi­cally engaged undergraduate and graduate students in Germany and abroad.

Award

The Foundation awards complete scholarships to students that will cover the entire duration of their program.

Eligibility

Conditions to be eligible for the scholar are as follows:

  • Students from all around the world are eligible.
  • Students need to have a very good school or college/university academic record.
  • Students must have a social commitment and political interest.
Application process

Applicants are to apply via the online application portal in the Heinrich Böll Foundation scholarships website and upload all requested documents. Be sure to submit your application before the end of the application deadline

Documents you will need to include with your application:

  1. Your personal data and CV.

2. Your motivation for are applying to the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

3. An outline of your motivation for studying your chosen subject and of your main areas of interest.

4. An outline of your social commitments and political interests or PhD thesis project.

Application deadline

1, March 2025 and 1, September 2025.
