The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana is a partnership between KNUST and the Mastercard Foundation, headquartered in Toronto Canada, to train altogether 2,250 scholars over an aggregated 15-year period (750 Scholars in Phase I – 2014-2019 and 1,500 Scholars in Phase II – 2019-2029) to contribute significantly to societal change and the transformation of Africa. The Program at KNUST provides access to quality university education to qualified academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people in deprived communities of Ghana and Africa and empower them to give-back to society. In the execution of her mandate, the Program further gives priority to Females, Displaced Persons (Certified Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons) and Persons with Disability.

Mastercard Foundation, formerly known as The Mastercard Foundation, is a non-profit organization that works with visionary organizations enable young to people in Africa and in Indigenous communities in Canada to access quality education, gain dignified and fulfilling work, while driving transformative change and achieving their full potential. The foundation seeks a world where all have the opportunity to learn and prosper. In order to achieve this goal, the foundation brings together the private sector, donors, young people, and civil society to create effective systems and infrastructures, supportive policies, and an environment where young people can find work and entrepreneurs and small enterprises can succeed and grow.

Scholarship award

This scholarship program offers benefits beyond academic funding. These include:

  • Comprehensive financial support (full tuition, fully paid on-campus accommodation, learning materials, transportation and monthly stipend).

  • Career Development Services (including Industrial Mentorship, Career Guidance, Professional Development, Enterprise Development among others).

  • The prestige of becoming part of the growing family of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Alumni and networking with the Global Scholars Community.

Eligibility

  • All Applicants and prospective candidates must have in their possession, a genuine and valid WASSCE or GBCE or ABCE or GCE O Level and A Level or their equivalent results from an accredited/recognized institutions. Applicant’s results must not be more than five years old.
  • The candidates must further meet KNUST’s Admission Requirements
  • The Applicant must demonstrate that he/she has Critical Economic Needs.
  • The Applicant must have Proven Records of Leadership and Community Engagement(s).
  • Priority shall be given to:
    • Females
    • Displaced Persons (Certified Refugees, Internally Displaced Persons, and the like)
    • Persons living with Disability
  • The Applicant must be prepared to Go-Back and Give-Back to his or her Community.
  • The Applicant must NOT be enrolled in any tertiary institution.
