NHEF Scholars program – Nigerian Higher Education Foundation

The Nigerian Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) founded in 2016 by John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur is a non-profit organization committed to enhancing the capacity of higher education institutions in Nigeria. In 2016 the NHEF Scholars program was launched with the aim to encourage the next generation of leaders by providing Nigerian institutions the support necessary to develop global scholars and leaders of the 21st century that can make a lasting impact in Nigeria and throughout Africa. It is a program that provides diverse opportunities to the selected Scholars from partner universities along with a fully funded scholarship. Each Scholar goes through a weeklong orientation program that exposes them to career development training that is pivotal in facilitating an easy transition into the global workforce.

About NHEF

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) was founded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur foundation in 2004. Since then, the NHEF has been committed to enhancing the capacity of higher education institutions in Nigeria and raising awareness about the role of higher education and Nigerian universities in social, economic and political development. NHEF are focused on sustainable development and creating opportunities for developing and nurturing Nigerian talent.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Nigerian student in enrolled at any of the partner universities.
  • Must be 300 level students studying a 4 year course or 400-level students studying a 5 year course.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Leadership, Community Service, and Philanthropy, as well as making a lasting impact across the globe.

  2. Bayero University, Kano
  3. University of Ibadan
  4. University of Lagos
  5. University of Nigeria, Nsukka
  6. University of Port Harcourt
How to apply

Applicants interested in this scholarship are to go to their page (linked below) and register at the scholarship portal. After that you can go ahead and apply for the scholarship by clicking on the “APPLY” tab from the dashboard.

Note that the application cannot be saved, hence all applicants should come prepared with the following documents to submit all at once (All in PDF format):

  • A one-page Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • A one-page Cover Letter
  • The most recent Statement of Results
