Bakandamiya is a Nigerian-based company that produces high-quality digital contents. Through its various online platforms, it provides resources covering areas such as technology, education, health, and literature.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, Bakandamiya organizes several educational and development programs, while also supporting community initiatives run by other organisations and institutions. Two of its major programs are:

Bakandamiya Encyclopaedia essay writing competition
Bakandamiya Encyclopaedia is like the Hausa version of Encyclopaedia Britannica. It was created to collect and archive information and research in the fields of education, science and general human endeavours in the Hausa language. The essay writing competition is a great opportunity for students and emerging writers to improve their research, expand their critical thinking, and produce accurate and useful information for human developments.
Research topics
The possible topics participants will be asked to write a formal encyclopaedic writing on include:
- Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics)
- Technology
- Health & Medicine
- History
- Literature
- Social Sciences
- Other fields of knowledge
Submission details
On the 15th of every month, a question will be posted on the Encyclopaedia Facebook page. Participants will answer in the following way:
- Encyclopedia-style essay (i.e. conceptual analysis)
- Minimum of 1500 words
- Post the answer as a reply to the question
Winners will be announced on the 20th–25th of every month.

Hikaya writing competition
Bakandamiya Hikaya (or simply Hikaya) is a reading platform for individuals interested in both reading and writing books and other literary work. The competition was formally known as the “Hikaya monthly quiz”, but now its official name is Hikaya Monthly Challenge, and it focuses on mainly critical literary writing.
Challenge benefits
Winners of the Hikaya Monthly Challenge receive the following:
- A certificate of achievement
- A cash prize of ₦10,0000
- Publication of the winner’s writing on the Hikaya blog
- A one month subscription to enjoy reading on the Hikaya app
- Publishing the winner’s name on a special page on Bakandamiya company website
Participation details
The question of the competition is usually posted on the 1st of every month, on Hikaya Facebook page. Once posted, participants can go ahead and start their essay to be submitted under the same post (as a reply). Ideal essays are expected to contain the following:
- Convincing information and relevant evidence (25 points)
- Clear information that demonstrates the validity of the research (25 points)
- Structured writing style (20 points)
- Citation of relevant analyses (10 points)
- Minimum 1500 to 2000 words (10 points)
An additional 10 points goes to the first person to answer the question correctly.
