The Tianjin government scholarship is a prestigious award established by the Tianjin Municipal Government to attract and support outstanding international students who wish to study in Tianjin, China. It is open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral applicants, offering full or partial scholarships to students of Nankai University. Although the award is typically granted for one academic year, students with excellent performance may renew it for subsequent years.

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship award is divided into full scholarship:

  • Exemption from registration fee, tuition, on-campus accommodation, laboratory fees, internship fees and basic learning materials fees.
  • The comprehensive insurance in China: 800 CNY/year
  • Living allowance (10 months)
    • Bachelor’s degree: 1,400 CNY/month
    • Master’s degree: 1,700 CNY/month
    • Doctoral degree: 2,000 CNY/month.
  • One time settlement for new students: 800 CNY per student

And partial scholarship:

  • Undergraduate: 20,000 CNY/year
  • Master’s degree: 30,000 CNY/year
  • PhD: 38,000 CNY/year.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Tianjin government scholarship:

  • Be able to speak both English and Chinese
  • Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen
  • Applicant must be under the age of 25
  • Bachelor’s degree applicants must have a high school diploma
  • Master’s degree applicants must have a bachelor’s degree
  • Doctoral degree applicants must have a master’s degree

How to apply

To apply for this scholarship applicants are to sign up into the scholarship portal and fill the online form given. Once you have submitted the form print it out and send it along with all the required documents to the international student office before the application deadline.

Required documents

  1. 2 copies of each required
  2. Highest diploma must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
  3. Official transcripts must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
  4. Personal Statement, including study or research plan, personal background, financial situation, personal strengths etc., written in Chinese or English
    • No less than 800 words for Master and Doctor Degree
    • No less than 300 words for Bachelor’ degree application
  5. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English written by professors or associate professors (Bachelor’s degree application should submit one recommendation letter.)
  6. Applicants applying for the Chinese-teaching discipline are required to have HSK level 4 or above. Those who have not reached the required HSK 4 level or have no knowledge of Chinese can apply for two months or one year of scholarship-covered remedial Chinese language studies before entering their major studies.
  7. Applicants whose native language is not English applying for the English-teaching discipline should provide TOEFL (above 87) or IELTS (above 6.0) scores.
  8. Photocopy of foreigner physical examination form (printed by Chinese Quarantine Authority – only required for those whose period of studies in China lasts more than six months) filled out in English. The medical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the foreigner physical examination form.
    • Note that incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed (stamped) photograph of the applicants are invalid.
    • The medical examination results will be valid for six months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining when to take the medical examination.
  9. Photocopy of passport.
  10. Copy of application fee receipt.
    • The application fee for graduate study is 600 CNY or US$100
    • Undergraduate fee is 400 CNY or US$75
  11. Can be submitted in person to the Nankai University Registry (the ground floor of Nankai University Student Activity Center) or wired to the account
