The Max Planck Institutes for Informatics, Software Systems, and Security and Privacy are offering fully funded research internships in computer science for the 2027 cycle, open to exceptional Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students worldwide, as well as industry professionals seeking academic research experience.
About the program
Interns will work directly with a faculty mentor at one of the participating Max Planck Institutes (Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern, or Bochum), conducting hands-on computer science research that can lead to coauthored publications at top academic conferences. Internships typically run 12 to 14 weeks, though longer placements are possible, and can also be converted into a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis project if the student’s university allows.

- Monthly living stipend-
- Housing costs covered
- Round-trip travel costs from home country to Germany
Eligibility
Interested candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Open to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students of all nationalities
- Undergraduates should have completed roughly the first three years of a standard computer science degree
- Solid foundation in computer science; interdisciplinary backgrounds (economics, law, humanities, social sciences) also welcome
- No IELTS required, but sufficient English communication skills needed since work is conducted in English
- Applications from underrepresented groups in STEM are encouraged
