The Petroleum Technology Development Fund Overseas Scholarship Scheme (PTDF OSS) is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship programme established by the Nigerian government to support outstanding Nigerian graduates pursuing MSc and PhD degrees in oil, gas, and energy-related fields at partner universities abroad.
The scholarship scheme covers full tuition, travel costs, health insurance, and living expenses, and aims to develop indigenous expertise and technical capacity for Nigeria’s energy sector. Recipients are expected to gain advanced knowledge and skills and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry after completing their studies

Eligibility
Depending on whether your an MSc student or PhD student here are the requirements to qualify for the PTDF overseas scholarship scheme:
MSc requirements
- A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
- Must be computer literate
- Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
- Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words)
- Stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
- Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and will be required to have verified it before applying for the scholarship
PhD requirements
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
- Must be computer literate
- Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good post-graduate degreeA research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than five pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection.For the approved PhD Research Areas click on this linkAll lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellors confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarshipsApplicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and will be required to have verified it (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship

- First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
- NYSC discharge certificate
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and the PINs on the application forms to enable PTDF to view the O’level results on the relevant website
- Recent Passport Photograph
- Local Government Identification Letter
- Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only)
- Evidence of membership in professional associations
