The University of Glasgow African excellence scholarship is an annual merit based award for students from across Africa who wish to pursue a master’s level degree to further develop their knowledge and skills, in order to positively contribute to their community in the future. The university is offering up to 16 tuition fee wavier scholarships for students who demonstrate high academic excellence academic and clear career goals that will contribute to development in Africa.
Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must present the following requirements:
- Have International fee status.
- Be domiciled in Africa and hold a passport from one of the eligible countries mentioned in the website
- Demonstrate academic excellence and achieve grades equivalent to a UK 1st Class Honours.
- Hold an offer of a place for a postgraduate taught one year Masters programme for September 2026 intake.
- Be able to demonstrate a clear career and/or development plan that will be supported by Masters level study (via application form).
- Recipients of this scholarship will be required to meet the UKVI living costs/financial requirement.
Note: The postgraduate Master’s programme offer is not needed to apply but applicants will require an offer to be considered for interview, and should take programme application timelines into consideration as outlined on programme webpages.
How to apply
Eligible students are to apply using the “Apply” button in the website (linked below). There will be an application form in which the students must fill and submit before the deadline. Every student should keep their student ID and application number ready for it will be required to apply.
Things to take note of:
- Applicants shortlisted for interviews will be contacted by 8th May, 2026.
- University of Glasgow is committed to support as many self-funded students as possible which is why UofG discounts and scholarships cannot be combined with one another or any external sponsorship discounts (with the exception of Alumni Discount).
- If you are offered more than one scholarship, the lower value award will be deleted from your account.
