The Osaka University MEXT Scholarships offers fully funded opportunities for international students pursuing undergraduate, master’s, or PhD degrees in Japan. Funded by the Japanese Government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the scholarship supports international students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, covering their studies at Osaka University.
Selected scholars receive a monthly allowance to support their living expenses, while tuition and other education fees are covered by MEXT. Eligible recipients may also receive round trip airfare to and from Japan. Beyond financial support, the scholarship gives international students the opportunity to study at Osaka University, engage in advanced academic and research activities, and experience Japanese culture while developing connections with students and researchers from around the world.

Eligibility
Undergraduate eligibility criteria:
- From a country with diplomatic relations with Japan
- Must pass the entrance exam for eligible programs
- Embassy Recommendation applicants complete a one-year Japanese language course first
Graduate eligibility criteria:
- Relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s degree before arrival
- Must pass screening by a Japanese embassy or consulate, then request a Letter of Acceptance from Osaka University
How to apply
Eligibile students are to apply through either the Embassy Recommendation or University Recommendation route which is screened either directly by the Japanese Embassy in your country, or assessed by Osaka University.
