The WASCAL German government scholarship is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The scholarship program offers fully funded support for the international master’s programme in energy and green hydrogen, awarded to 60 students across all 15 west African countries. Focused on one of the world’s fastest-growing energy fields, the program positions green hydrogen as a transformative force in the global energy transition, with Africa poised to become a major player.

About WASCAL

WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) is a regional organization that supports climate change research, capacity building, and policy development across West Africa. It is funded and supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), which partners with West African governments and universities to run graduate programs and research projects. Established to strengthen the region’s response to climate challenges, WASCAL brings together scientists, policymakers, and academic institutions to develop practical solutions for sustainable land use, energy transition, and environmental resilience. Its scholarship and training programs aim to build the next generation of experts who will help shape West Africa’s sustainable development.

  3. Curriculum vitae
  4. WASSCE or SSCE Certificate (Anglophone Countries)
  5. Two letters of recommendation from professors or researchers (grade associate professor or senior researcher at least).
  6. A copy of identity document
  7. A copy of Passport Photo Page
  8. A letter of motivation (max. 2 pages).
  9.  A copy of university degree certificate
  10. A certificate copy of proficiency in English or, in alternative, a  statement indicating and
    justifying your self-assessment in the context of English proficiency.
  11. Proof of professional experience in relevant area for the course, IF applicable.
  12. A written commitment to pay a registration fee of 30 Euro if admitted.
How to apply

To apply for the WASCAL government scholarship students are to go on the official webpage (linked below) and select one of the available fully funded master’s programs. Then go through the full details and guidelines for each program and download the application form to fill out.
