University of Oxford: Mastercard AfOx scholarship

The Mastercard AfOx scholarship funds a rigorous one year Master’s course paired with a leadership and impact programme (delivered with the Skoll Centre for Social Enterprise), building collaborative leadership skills for cross-sector, interdisciplinary problem-solving. After completing their degree, Scholars undertake a 4โ€“6 month โ€œUbuntu Period of Serviceโ€ with an Africa-based organisation, where they apply their skills to real-world initiatives while receiving mentorship from African academics and practitioners.

Scholarship benefits

Scholars will recieve the following:

  1. Annual living stipend of ยฃ21,805
  2. Full course fees
  3. Economy return flight, visa and Immigration Health Surcharge fees
  4. Settling-down allowance and access to a thrive fund for emergencies

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following conditions to be considered for this scholarship:

  1. African nationality
  2. Necessary residence considerations for students from refugee/displaced backgrounds
  3. Priority for historically underrepresented groups, including women, refugees/displaced people, and disabled scholars

How to apply

Interested and eligible candidates should first apply for a graduate degree at the University of Oxford via the graduate admissions portal, indicating their wish to be considered for AfOx funding.

Candidates with a conditional offer are then invited to the AfOx Graduate Scholarship process, including a questionnaire and virtual interview.

Application deadline

January 8, 2027.
