University of Rwanda: Mastercard scholarship For Africans

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda has opened its 3rd cohort, offering 30 fully funded Master’s scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year to academically talented but economically or socially disadvantaged young Africans.

The Mastercard foundation scholarships is part of a 10 year initiative (MCF-SP@UR). The program prioritizes women in STEM, certified refugees, displaced youth, and persons with disabilities, aiming to develop Africa’s next generation of ethical, transformative leaders.

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship comes with numerous benefits including:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly living stipend for the full year
  • Laptop and learning materials
  • Accommodation
  • Annual return ticket allowance
  • Psycho-social support
  • mentorship and career development services

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizen of an African country (refugees must provide official certification from UNHCR, MINEMA, or a recognized legal agency)
  2. Applied for admission to an eligible 2-year Master’s program at the University of Rwanda for the September 2026 intake
  3. Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the Master’s program
  4. Male applicants 40 or younger
  5. female applicants 45 or younger
  6. Demonstrated financial/social need, economic disadvantage, or disability
  7. Not currently enrolled at another tertiary institution

How to apply

Apply for admission to an eligible University of Rwanda Master’s program (scholarship pre-selection depends on this), then complete the scholarship application with all required documents.
