The CIPM essay contest is open to undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions with the aim of promoting excellence in people management – one of CIPM’s vision, across all Nigerians. The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria holds this contest annually with different essay topics every year as a way to develop high standard of professional competence and ensure that the management of human resource in Nigeria conforms with the best professional standards.
What is CIPM
The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria was established as an umbrella Association for Practitioners of Personnel Management in 1968 as the Personnel Management Association of Nigeria. Finally, Act No 58 of 1992 chartered the Institute. Their aim is to promote excellence in people management through several strategic initiatives.
CIPM’s mission
- Foster and maintain investigations and research into the best means, and method of applying the science and art of Personnel Management and to encourage, extend, increase, disseminate and promote knowledge and the exchange of information and ideas with regard to all questions relating thereto or connect therewith.
- Promote and develop the science and practice of personnel management in all its ramification.
- Conduct research into and publish materials relating to the discipline of Human Resource Management.
- Develop and maintain high standard of professional competence and ensure that the management of human resource in Nigeria, both in public and private sectors, conforms with the best professional standards.

How to apply
2024 Essay topic
“The Rise of Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Job and Workforce Dynamics in Organisations.”
The following standards must be met when writing the essay:
- Referencing: APA Style (6th Edition)Font: Times New Roman, 12-point font size.
- Length: Not more than 3000 words.
- Documentation: Typed in double line spacing: MS Word only.
- Plagiarism: Plagiarized content will result in disqualification of the offender’s entry.
Documents required
In addition to the essay, the following will be required:
- Copy of admission letter to student’s current institution
- One recent passport sized photograph
- ID Card from student’s current institution
- Current mobile telephone number and e-mail address.
