University of Kent GREAT scholarship

The University of Kent GREAT scholarship is part of the UK government funded GREAT scholarships scheme, delivered in partnership with the British Council. It offers a £10,000 award toward tuition fees for international students enrolling in a one year taught master’s programme at Kent. The scholarship is merit-based and requires applicants to first secure an admission offer, after which they express interest through the university’s portal. Beyond financial support, recipients are expected to act as ambassadors for UK education and participate in networking and cultural events during their studies.

Eligibility

The requirements to be eligible for this scholarship include the following:

  1. Be a Ghanaian, Indian, Kenyan, Malaysian, Nigerian, Thai or Turkish passport holder and live in Ghana, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand or Türkiye, and be assessed as an overseas fee payer;
  2. Have received a conditional offer for a one year full time course at one of our UK campuses and have accepted this before the deadline date of 24 April 2026;
  3. Have submitted an expression of interest for the GREAT scholarship (please see below for full details)
  4. Be starting your course in September 2026;
  5. Be active in the field with work experience or proven interest in the subject area;
  6. Be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI;
  7. Be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment;
  8. Represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships; and
  9. Be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.

How to apply

Eligible applicants should apply for admission to an eligible program at Kent and ensure they meet all eligibility requirements and have received a conditional offer from the University of Kent. Then Apply for the scholarship through the online applicant portal.

  • Applicants will be required to submit an essay of no more than 500 words discussing a topic you’ve studied and its relevance to your chosen degree program. This essay should highlight applicant’s motivation and interest in selected field.
