MTN foundation annual scholarship

MTN foundation scholarships, a part of their youth development cause, provides an annual platform for recognizing and rewarding dedicated, high performing students across Nigerian public tertiary institutions. They have curated three scholarship categories to cater to the diverse needs of their exceptional scholars:

1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship(MTN STS)

Their flagship program since 2010, open to eligible 300 level students studying science & technology-related courses, in Nigerian public tertiary institutions(universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education). 300 successful students are awarded scholarships worth N200,000.00 annually till graduation, provided they maintain the required grades.

Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA)

  • STEM Students in public universities, and colleges of education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average score of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second class upper credit).
  • STEM Students in public polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the ordinary national diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into the higher national diploma (HND) program.
  • Direct Entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the OND program and must have secured admission into 300 level/3rd year in a public university.

2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students(MTN SBS)

Launched in 2012 and targeted at eligible 200 and 300 level blind students studying any course in Nigerian public tertiary institutions(universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education). 60 successful blind students are awarded scholarships worth N200,000.00 annually till graduation, provided they maintain the required grades.

Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA)

  • Students in the Universities or Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5
  • Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from the ordinary national diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into the higher national diploma (HND) program.

3. Top 10 UTME Scholarship

A recent addition in 2020, every year the top 10 scoring candidates of UTME as announced by JAMB, automatically qualify for the top 10 UTME scholarship. The successful candidates are awarded scholarships worth N200,000 from their 100 level through to graduation if they maintain the required grades.

Field of study

MTN STS is open to 300 level students studying Science & Technology related courses, in Nigerian public tertiary institutions (universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education).

MTN SBS is open to 200 & 300 level Blind students studying any course in Nigerian public tertiary institutions (universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education).

Level of degree

The MTN STS: Is open to students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations going to 300 level and students currently in their 300 level as the academic calendar in not aligned across all public tertiary institutions.

The MTN SBS: Is open to 200 & 300 level blind students in any Nigerian public tertiary institutions (universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education). However, for blind students studying Law, which is a 5 years course, only 300 level students can apply for the MTN Scholarship.

Application deadline

The deadline for 2023 is over but be checking in with the website for the 2024 updates.
